Anna Akhmanova (born 1967) is a Russian-born professor of Cell Biology at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. She is best known for her research regarding microtubules and their plus-end stabilizing proteins, or TIPs. ==Career== Akhmanova grew up in a family of scientists. She studied biochemistry and molecular biology at Moscow State University. Her thesis was completed in Alexander Mankin’s laboratory where she researched halophilic archaebacteria.〔 She continued her studies in the Netherlands, obtaining a PhD from Radboud University Nijmegen in 1997. She then started working as postdoc at Nijmegen and the Erasmus MC. In 2011 she became professor of Cell Biology at Utrecht University.〔 Her research, amongst other subjects, focuses on the cytoskeleton.〔 She is best known for her research regarding microtubules and their plus-end stabilizing proteins, or TIPs.〔
